’Down Our Street’ is a reference to George Callaghan’s Belfast roots. The back-to-back terraced houses of the industrial city are portrayed in a playful and almost dream-like way as if an amalgam of memories from Callaghan’s childhood. Callaghan plays with perspective allowing the street to fall away and the houses to appear to go on forever. In the distance Cave Hill, tall cranes and chimneys, a gasometer and a church spire all help to identify the scene as Belfast.
